We created an authentic and collectable diary for 353, based on real-life accounts, using the blood of soldiers.

353 are a charity looking after army veterans from the conflict in Afghanistan. It was formed after the death of Conrad Lewis, the 353rd soldier to die, and who's family are close friends of Chapter.

We published the personal diary of Pte Chris Burtenshaw, who served alongside Conrad, on the frontline in Afghanistan. The ink used in the diary was mixed with blood from the author and the men who served alongside him. It also features hand-written annotations and comes in a presentation box designed and made by craftsmen in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

A real-time version of the diary was also published online. Daily posts were supported by content highlighting events from history that happened on the same day as well as links to a Spotify playlist where visitors could check out the fighting tunes of the men.

The 353 diary is just one of many projects we have produced for the 353 charity – which is set to have raised £1million by the end of 2019.
